Tangled Depths - The Land of Roots
Tangled Depths is located in the Heart of Maguuma, and is widely acknowledged to be one of the most annoying maps to navigate (so far at least). It is located within the roots of the jungle and is home to an insect race known as the Chak. The Chak, the maps main inhabitants, feed mainly off of the abundant Ley-Energy and are incredibly good at throwing enough goop at you to glue you to the floor and really screw up your day, especially if you are being followed by a giant group (.... Herd?) of them. It is also the location of Nuhoch Hylek and hides the lost ruined city of Rata Novus. [Edit 06/05/2018: The Rata itself has a front porch and a room before the ones you can enter, similar to Rata Sum. Unlike Rata Sum however, the door is inaccessible and located over an overhanging cliff you cannot get to in-game. Whilst the reason behind this choice is unknown, we have managed to locate the missing entry way and have included images below.) It also has some spectacular scenery - often overlooked due to the awkwardness of the map itself, which made exiting the normal routes to have an over head look far more satisfying. Our route was far easier to fly, and the sites were quite something to see in themselves. The Skybox is splendid and once outside you can really see the full scale of things.
The map itself feels quite small inside, despite the plethora of objects scattered around in an attempt to make it feel far more claustrophobic (which works quite well as much of the map is supposed to be underground inside of giant insect hollows, inside the massive tree roots.) and hectic.
Outside however this feeling changes, and the map opens up into a far better and easier-to-traverse map. It is filled with roots, moving stone structures and of course, the front door to Rata Novus.
