Anet, you have outdone yourself.
New Kaineng City (indeed, every new Canthan Map) has been incredible. The detail, down the the smallest thing, has been well thought out and carefully given its own place within the map.
New Kaineng City is the heart of Cantha - Their own equivalent of Lions Arch and the main hub for all of their export. If you have been reading the snippets in game, you'll have seen there is more than 3 million gold exported every DAY.
Anyway! On to the nitty bits.
NEW Kaineng implies the existence of an OLD Kaineng and, dear reader, if you played the original Guildwars, you will know this did indeed exist.
Kaineng City was the capital of the Empire of the Dragon, a massive metropolis that used to cover the north western part of Cantha. The ruins actually still exist in the top corner of the map today. For any linguisticaly implied who may read this, "Kaineng" comes from the old Canthan word meaning 'Emperor'.
It was originally founded by Kaineng Tah (also known as Kaing). A Warlord in the beginning, he reigned as the first Canthan Emperor from 510 to 464 BE when he founded the Dragon Empire.
According to records of the time, he had received a Message from the Gods, which prompted him to unite the coastal tribes. At the time, the other two factions known as the Kurzicks and the Luxons, were left alone despite being considered as Vassals of the kingdom.
Kaing 'mysteriously' died during a hunting trip, and was succeeded by his son Yian Zho. (Who promptly decided to wage war on the two factions because what better than to undo all dads work?)
It was at the time, the sole human nation upon the entire southern continent and had two names - Empire of the Dragon, and Cantha (as we still know it today.)
