The Holiday Resort from Hell
I mean, unless you like crabs. Lots of crabs. Crabs the size of houses that occasionally burn the resort down. If you like those, then this is the place for you.
Southsun Cove is an island located to the south west of the main hub - Lions Arch.
The island was only properly explored and connected to the Asura gate hubs after the fall of the Dragon Zhaitan, as the Consortium had plans to turn it into a tourist attraction.
However the native Karka were enraged by the actions of the survey Team who, rather than stick to their orders, used loopholes to facilitate their study of the flora of the island. The Karka themselves had only recently settled on the island, and were easily enraged due to having has to flee their home due to the deep sea Dragon, Bubbles.
The Karka attached the survey team and even followed the survivors back, in turn attacking Lions Arch, GarrenHof and Caledon Forest.
In retaliation, the Lionguard fought back, taking control of the Island and defeating the Ancient Karka thanks to a network of roads, siege weapons and outposts.
Since this Victory, the Consortium has continued its research efforts, and turned it into a tourist attraction.

A line of washing waves lazily in the breeze.
Housing set up for the refugees who came to Southsun

On top of the tourists, the Island has also been made into a home for the refugees from the Living World Story 1's event: Flame and Frost. The architecture and the small details, really do bring a lovely sense of peace in between all the Karka squishing and hot vents.
For those who were not there at the time, Flame and Frost was the event which showcased the Molten Alliance, an alliance of Dredge and Flame Legion, whose aim was to combine their tech and magic to a new source of power. This was also the event which introduced Braham and Rox. The event happened in the Season of the Zephyr, 1326 AE, with the appearance of peculiar storms that began to ravage the Shiverpeaks and destroy the homes of Norn and Charr. In the beginning, the Wolfborn and Adamant Guard could not figure out what was the cause, and any eye witness reports were classed as unreliable as they believed the witnesses were suffering from shock. Many reports spoke about the Dredge, but that they were using some form of Fire magic. When they finally discovered the cause of the weather, they were astounded to find it was caused by steam spewing forth from underground, wreaking havoc with the air and humidity. However they were unable to find the cause. Without spoiling too much, just in the off chance they ever re-release season one, it culminated in the Vigil eventually discovering the Molten base, and, with the aid of Rox and Braham, they were able to destroy the base, cripple the molton alliance forces, and discover that the person behind the whole thing was a city dweller. That persons identity however is still unknown. |
If you do want to ever visit of course, and spend some time as a tourist, there is a small beach just below Pearl Islet, where you will be forced to strip to your underwear (because we still don't have swim suits PLEASE ANET) and you can wander around the beach at ease. As it is a tourist beach you cannot mount, just in case your raptor or griffin decided to drop a large enough dung pile that even your rollerbeetle couldn't move, but there is a bar, so it has that going for it at least. |
No shirt, no shoes doesn't apply at this bar.

The only real issue we have with this map, as small boundary breakers, is that there really is not much to see behind the scenes.
We've broken out of quite a few areas, but asides from some small rocks, and getting into the event area without any of the mobs, it's very quiet.
We will keep exploring and if we find more, we'll update - that's a promise!
