Hoelbrak - Good cheer, beer and small amounts of fear
Safe to say, Hoelbrak is the place I know the least about. As it is floating, far far FAR above the water, it is impossible to explore to the same degrees as the other home areas. Alas, because of this there is little I can say upon it, other than what you can see from below, is also able to be seen in the map itself. Barring one hidden drum kit, clearly belonging to a Norn who would prefer to keep his precious noisemaker far from the hands of any other drunken Norn.
This in itself means that the map is quite uneventful and rather plain to explore.
Edit 22/01/2020
Dear Devs - I apologise for calling this map uneventful and plain. It's actually a lot more detailed than I expected, especially as I've managed to explore the edges now. The higher you go, the more stunning this map becomes.
I also have to say, I am very jealous of the Norn who get to play in this slide. Can we Charr get one too?
Since the Hoelbrak was built after the servants of Jormag drove the Norn from their origional home in the Far Shiverpeaks. It was the hunting lodge buiolt by Asgeir when he led his people south, placing the fang he had taken from Jormag in its center. A vast and sprawling encampment built up around the lodge and Hoelbrak now serves as the meetring place of the Norn.
Going further back in history, to 1165 AE, the Elder Dragon Jormag awoke in the far north beyond the Far Shiverpeaks. Jormag prepared to march south to the Norn people, creating a massive, incessant blizzard that lasted for four years.
The Skaald (norn storytellers) say that the Elderdragon killed the Norn in their hundreds and buried the nornern passes beneath snow. It shattered the Far shiverpeaks into islands, creating new inland lakes and seas.
The Norn called upon the Spirits of the Wild and ancient Jotun magic, and used it to claim vistory over Jormags greatest champion, Frostfang. They went on to attack Jormag directly at Volsungs Stead, wherein Asgiers party was all but slaughtered. The area is now known as Asgiers Legacy and can be found within Bjora Marches.
A huge ribcage in the center shows a vision of Asgier and the Fang of the Serpent. Nearby you can read a diary containing his thoughts of the encounter.
Jormag was not killed by Asgier, instead as his party lay defeated, Jormag seemingly had a change of heart. He told Asgier to take the tooth he had knocked from the dragon in the fight and to lead his people south. In return Jormag would not follow, as the beast had learnt the Norn needed to be preserved. Asgier however knew that the Norn people would never back away willingly and so kept this exchange a secret, recording it only in the journal that he left behind as testament to the deal.
Four of the Spirits knew the Norn would not survive another confrontation and took to guiding them south in safety. The Norn took these four and made them prominent figures in their culture to show their gratitude.
Bear, Raven, Snowleopard and Wold led Asgier to the lowlands, tasking him with building Hoelbrak.
The other Spirits, Ox, Owl, Wolverine and Eagle remained behind to fight off the elderdragon, and at it is known that at least Owl died defending the Norn against the dragons advances. The other three have since been lost to time.
The Owl shaman Ulgandis claims Owl was slain over Owl Lodge, although the Skaald Stjarna suggests Owl died in the North before Asgier led the Norn southwards. The other three spirits are remembered in the Lost Spirits Hallow in Hoelbrak.
Since the release of the IceBrood Saga, both the Norn and the Charrv have teamed up to reclaim their homelands in the far Shiver peaks and the Blood Legion Homeland as the dragon once again begins his advances. Thanks to this fifth installment of the Living world, the Norn finally have the opportunity to reclaim their long lost home.
