Isle of Istan - The Players Hell
Istan. Once a thriving and beautiful place, one of the first colonised by the humans, now a place where Joko reigns and his statues litter the ground like popcorn in a theatre. It's also an area that has bugged many a player, who were hoping it would have remained as it had in Guildwars 1, unspoilt by the undead, tarred soldiers of Palawa Joko.
But it is also a place of mystery. What lies behind the massive wall? Or in the depths of the ocean? What is on the last half of the island that we cannot reach?
That's what I am here for !
Snakes.
Literally - snakes.

Giant, golden snakes and hoops. What's it there for? Well to be honest I do not know, but I intend on finding out ! Istans map is quite strange to be frank. The ocean hides a secondary shadow field, one that I have only ever seen in the skyboxes of maps with dark areas, such as Blazeridge. What's even stranger is that the field is so deep down, it's not actually visible anywhere on the map by the player!
What's even stranger is I cannot find any reference to the snake room anywhere. The only thing we know is it's hidden behind the royal docks and appears to be a jumping puzzle of some description. The large area at the end appears to be an arena more than a location for a chest but again this could be speculation. |
But that isn't all that Istan hides! There is a hidden desert, a dilapidated and disconnected skull gate, and a strange crater that we have reason to believe could be the very first place the meteor landed.
We have done our very best to bring you a tour of the desert and the little gate that is hidden far from the wall, but sadly again we cannot give you a reason for their existence. All we can think of is either a place where the Anet devs messed around with assets, building and testing different structures, an area that would have become something or else a place for a cutscene to take place.
Again there is always the possibility that area is in development at the moment, and we will be given an opportunity to destroy Jokos walls and explore beyond, but much more work would need to be done as most of the area back there is a sheer drop into filthy water.
